How To Find The Right Website Designer

By admin on Saturday, November 28th, 2009 | Filed under General

Choosing the right Website Designer will be the best investment your business will make. Unfortunately I have seen many websites which gives the website owner a bad name. This article will help you avoid being a statistic of having a bad name via your website.

Not every Website Designer knows how to build a successful website. If the Website Designer’s website doesn’t grab your attention, there design skills are lacking big time. Design skills in web designing are extremely important, because the design of a website is what grabs the attention of the website visitor, so if the website visitor’s attention isn’t grabbed within 30 seconds the website will fail. Research companies have done research on what works with websites, and they have come up with only visually-pleasing, professional-looking websites work. A drab-looking website will bore any website visitor. Every knows that what grabs their attention makes them want to explore that website.

Experience
Ask how much experience the Website Designer has had building websites. If your website will be the first website they have built, they might not know how to build a successful website for you, which means your website will not work the way you would like it to. Experience is really important when it comes to building successful websites, just like any field of work, the more experience a person has the better they will perform at their work. I started building websites back in 2005, and gee I have learnt so much since then, even though the diploma I graduated from was a starting point for me.

Cost
Beware of the cheap Website Designers. I believe and know that if a Website Designer charges less than what most Website Designer charge, then they will provide a inferior service to you. Everyone knows that what is cheaper usually is inferior. In my business I charge $100 per page and $40 per hour for everything else – I did my research before knowing what to charge, and you should do your research before deciding on which Website Designer to employ.

Check Out Their Work
Always and mean always ask to see what work the Website Designer has completed. If their work looks drab and unprofessional, and if you want your website to work, don’t go there. The design should be pleasing to the eye, in order for it to work. Also a website should be easy-to-use and functional.

How Long Will It Take
If the Website Designer says they can build a website in about 2 days, in my experience no website can be built within about 2 days – building a successful website takes a lot of considerable time. Every website takes longer than one week to build. Allow quite enough time for your Website Designer to build your website – don’t leave it until the last minute.

Search Engines
I believe every website should be listed in the top results of the top search engines (Google and Yahoo). Not every Website Designer knows how to buiild a search engine friendly website. These days people search Google or Yahoo to find a website, whether they are searching for a product or service, or searching for your business. So you could be losing out if your website isn’t listed in search engines.

Maintaining Your Website
Every Website Designer should be able to build your website in a website management system (content management system). It is the convenient way for everyone – the website owner and the Website Designer. Ask the Website Designer if they will build your website in a website management system. Some Website Designer teams have their own website management system, others work with free website management systems, such as MODx, Joomla, WordPress and Drupal. I have worked with Joomla and Drupal and believe that MODx and WordPress is much better in the way of security and other things.

Ask Questions
If the Website Designer can’t answer all of your questions, you may be heading into trouble with your website.

Your Ideas
When hiring a Website Designer, never give them an actual design. I say that because experienced, professional Website Designers know the pros and cons of a bad design. As explained before having a bad design will give you a bad name. You may tell them other websites which have things that you would like on your website, that is all right, but I never have seen the point of giving a Website Designer, a design for a website.

By reading and doing all of the above should help you find the right Website Designer.
